Beach Vacation

Bradyn & Declan searching for "sand fleas"

Bradyn and Declan enjoyed digging for sand fleas, the scientific name is Emerita, but they are also known as mole crabs, sand crabs, beach hoppers, and lookie cookies. They are fun to locate and dig up. Declan really enjoyed feeling them dig back into the palm of his hand when he had a little sand in his hand ... it really does tickle. We had a nice week at Emerald Isle and we were very fortunate to have a nice week between tropical storm Hannah and the threat of hurricane Ike. The waters were to rough to play in the first few days but the water calmed down by mid week. Liam got to get his feet dipped in the Atlantic and sit in a little tide pool but he didn't like the hotter days on the beach. We were blessed to be able to have another nice beach vacation at Emerald Isle.

The Missing Pony has Returned!

Gingerbread is back!!

Our 10 hand paint Pony, Gingerbread, went missing from our pasture on July 14. We could not find her anywhere. At first I thought she might have just wandered into the back pasture and perhaps down into the wooded areas of our property. I walked our farm and searched our property everywhere that I could walk and get through; in some parts of the property that I haven't walked since the first year we moved here. I couldn't find any evidence of her getting out or of a predator taking her down. We assumed the worse and even thought that she was stolen. Our family was crushed; we were really sad that we had lost her and it was very upsetting to think that someone would take her. All of us had multiple dreams about her and talked about how much we missed her. Declan even still talked about her as if she was still out in the pasture. Almost 4 weeks later, to the day, Gingerbread made her appearance with a surprise! A baby! We had no idea and it was hard to even get our minds around it. We bought Gingerbread just before Christmas last year and no one told us she was in foal. We never suspected. There was a time during the winter that I was surprised how well she was holding weight, even looking like she had a hay belly; but never suspecting that she was pregnant. We do feel awful that we didn't know, as we would have fed her with higher protein feed and more hay and grain in general.
Bradyn and Anya, our new Great Pyrenees puppy, had the first exciting view of Gingerbread with her new foal. Bradyn was mowing the grass around the horse barn and tack barn when Anya started barking at a new "visitor" behind our barns, between our barns and back pasture. This alerted Bradyn that there was something behind the barns. Bradyn hesitantly looked around and discovered Gingerbread and her new baby girl! We have named the new addition to the farm, Gingersnap.

Our new Livestock Guard Dog

Anya

Anya is our new Great Pyrenees puppy that we bought to keep guard of our farm. She is a little small to truly guard anything yet but she is doing a great job of building her loyalty to the farm animals and barking when something isn't right. Anya stays with the goats and ponies in our horse paddock. She is constantly trying to get the ponies' attention and is very affectionate to the goats and ponies.

Valentine's Day, Declan's Birthday, Saint Patrick's Day, Dixie Youth T-Ball, Dixie Youth Major Baseball

A lot has been going on! So much activity that, before you know it, time has flown by. All good though! We had a very nice Valentine's Day this year. Mommy got lots of chocalate and flowers. Declan's birthday was a lot of fun. Mommy made it a pony theme and the kids got to ride Gingerbread, hit on a pony pinata, and eat a horse shaped and decorated cake that Angel baked from scratch. The day was incredibly windy and we even lost another tree that fell across the driveway (that made it a total of 3 very large trees down from wind).
